Soliloquy
This soliloquy series of portrait photography focuses on exploring the embedded image and emotions in human memories. To me, all images can be displayed in three layers. The first is the imagery icon ( sign ) for expressing the invisible, inner emotions and moods. The second, the parties that are directly involved, and the third layer, a specific venue or an (embellished) landscape in the memory. The parties concerned relay their sentiments with these three layers pieced together. My friends and family members are the objects of my photography. The narratives they get across to me are further integrated with my imagined picture and transformed into a piece of complete artwork. The characters are taken solitarily in an empty background to be processed for completion later.
To express the emotion felt at the instant moment but can hardly be captured in a desired form of image , I deliberately split it into layers and grasp all the apparent elements therein, to present an integrated image when look from afar but separate, independent images when being looked at closely. I have in this sense developed a new way of taking photographic images. My artworks is my individual expression delivered on the basis of the message conveyed to me by the parties concerned, which are therefore very direct and need no further elaboration. I hope the audience can directly sense certain kind of intense language of sentiments and interpret the artwork according to their own understanding.
