Ceremony
FAKE LANDSCAPE / THEATER
‘’The Ceremony series’’ is an exploration of the composition and visual observation issues and the image of life. The unique Chinese artificial landscape and lotus flower that represents the Chinese mentality, likening a person with Chinese opera-like of “make-up” to his indiscernible identity. This painting suggests that before the performance, every actor has already entered a ritual-like spiritual atmosphere as they started to put on make-up. Putting on make-up is the first step to make the actors forget their actual age and their own behavior mode, an action can be deemed as entering a ritual akin to the one of the medium possessed, or a medium of communication. Similar to my process of creation, in which I gradually enter the world of painting, this is a style originating from my love of Butoh.
In this series of work, I adopted the composition in tableau, which allows the unification of diverse hours of time, the images may cover a consecutive period of time that span from the past to the future or just shows a “corner of time”/”frame of the scenery”. This kind of spatial dissection and time implication are very similar to the method used in creating altar pieces during the Renaissance-- different points of time are covered in the same piece of image work. These series of paintings are all done in three-in-a set painting, in which the images seem to be consistent, but under closer observation, they can’t be connected seamlessly though they share related signs. They can be in different space of time and venues but put together by a piece of canvas. Audience’s interest is aroused in this artwork or they can complement that missing relationship in their mind.

Desiderium
"A song of desiderium” is a series of artwork rendered in the form of output relief- collage combined with painting, purposely created to produce an output wallpaper effect. The figures in the paintings do not integrate into the environment, their facial expressions and movements implicit their immersion in their egocentric world and insensitivity to reality. It is an investigation on the phenomenon derived from the technological advancement, in which modern people are domestic, typically weak in interaction with people, fail to discern reality from virtual world, and fall into a world of fantasy. The whole background has been designed to be a co-existence of reality and virtual world.
Stare
To discuss the correspondence of the viewer and the viewed. At first, the viewer sees the character (meditator in a bathtub) displayed in full screen. Then another face, clear yet still vague, would come out from the right mirror when the light goes brighter. The viewer would then realize that there is not only she herself, but also another person staring at (her), or she could assume that she herself is the viewer in the mirror, and the screen forms by many layers with special lightening, creating a different and mysterious atmosphere.
- Use photochromic pigments with UV lamp to form the characters in the mirror reflecting the illusion and reality.
Pseudo- Human Creature
This sculpture inspired from the muscle of humankind. I turned this symbol to create an unknown and Pseudo-human creature. Then displayed it in our environment, it looks like it merges into the surrounding but you will quickly find it does not belong to nature and feel it’s similar to you and me.
